Restraining order, how and when will I be notified?

I've been seeing my boyfriend (ex)? For about 9 months, his mom absolutely hates my guts and she doesn't want me anywhere near her house or son. Neither does my family want anything to do with his. Her son is 22 an adult living with his mom. So we have to sneak out to see eachother, the other night we hung out and we somehow ended up in the house. Woops, we were buzzed and he invited me in. We hung out inside until morning. And his mom woke up. She ran downstairs and started throwing things at me, threw a couple of punches at me. I didn't touch her. Her son had to push her off me. We both went upstairs into his room and locked the door. She called the cops, they came and left. Why didn't the cops do anything? 

Anyways we both passed out until my mom came to the door to pick me up, I opened the door. They started yelling at us and his mom threatened to file a restraining order against me, I didn't do anything! The night before she threatened to do that and her son reassured me that she's all talk and she's just trying to scare me. I don't know what to expect. Shouldn't I be the one pressing charges or restraining order? How long does it take to be notified? This happened Sunday.
