Asking for a friend!!!!

A friend of mine met a guy couple of yrs back, They like themselves pretty well dated for couple of months. But the guy was pretty complicated from passed relationships that he can’t move on or commit to anyone .So he told the girl they’d become friends If you see them if they didn’t tell you, you will think they are dating but thy aren’t . He Practically takes care of gives Literally everything needs not want But they can never be together.. So my question is do you think there’s a chance they might get back together???
