Tonsillectomy as an Adult

Has anyone had their tonsils removed as an adult? I was just referred to an ENT (ear, nose, and throat specialist) because I have had around 5-6 bouts of tonsillitis this past year where I get white spots and sores all over my tonsils and other horrible symptoms so I’m thinking of getting them removed or talking to the ENT about it, but I keep reading over and over how painful it is to get them removed as an adult and my mom does not want me to get them removed! If anyone has any suggestions or has been through this I would love your input!
