Lovenox injection danger?

Question

I have a factor V Leiden mutation which causes me to clot more than others and my hematologist told me when I was about 8 weeks pregnant that I should be on baby aspirin now and after the birth, I will be giving myself lovenox injections.

I'm currently 32 weeks with identical twin girls and I did some research. According to drugs.com, lovenox injections can cause a serious blood clot after any form of spinal anesthesia or spinal tap (I will be delivering via planned cesarean at 35 weeks). It also stated that you should not breast feed.

I'm furious with this and refuse to be on it. Has anyone had issues while on the lovenox?

Talk to your dr. I'm also on Lovenox injections for a protein S deficiency. My dr is switching me to Heparin at 34 weeks as well as what another poster said. With Heparin it's shorter acting so you are able to have an epidural.

Your risk of clotting goes up significantly when you are pregnant, which increases the risk of dvt and pulmonary embolism. The clotting disorder increases the chances of having these problems even more and additionally carries the risk of miscarriage. Many women have several miscarriages before they find out they have a clotting disorder. Lovenox is generally very safe. If you have it after an epidural you should be fine. If you have it before, they generally stop it prior to your due date or planned induction. It doesn't stay in your system for very long. In your case, with a clotting disorder and the risks associated with it for up to 6 weeks after birth, the benefits of using Lovenox outweigh the risks, which are minimal for you and for the babies even if they are nursing. I'm a nurse and I've taken care of women who have developed PE after birth. It's very serious. I would take the drug if I were in your shoes.

I was on lovenex when I was pregnant(ended in mc) but they were going to put me on a diff blood thinner when I was 34 weeks that I took 2 times a day cause it doesn't last as long in your system as lovenex. Also, if you're scheduled for a c-section, then they should be taking you off of the shot just before you deliver cause you're not supposed to be on a blood thinner and having surgery. Talk to your doc, they should be taking you off of it

I'm almost 12 weeks and have been on Lovenox since 8 weeks. My midwife did mention that it's risky on blood thinners to have an epidural (I can't anyway, because of my spinal fusion, so if I need a cesarean, I'll be put to sleep). However, it's much more dangerous with Factor V to be pregnant and not be on Lovenox. Pregnancy in a normal person increases your chances of developing a DVT or clot behind the placenta or in the cord. Having Factor V significantly raises that chance. A clot or clots behind the placenta can cause stillbirth or harm to the baby. Trust your care providers to weigh the risks of a clot after a spinal with the risks of no anticoagulant. Before your delivery, they will stop the Lovenox and switch you to Heparin, because it can be controlled around delivery with an antidote. My first clot was the entire length of my left leg, required two emergency surgeries and almost caused an amputation at my hip. I'm not risking that or any harm to this baby. I meet the perinatologist tomorrow to do my first ultrasound that will check blood flow to the baby. I'll be asking about breastfeeding then.

I've been on heparin and lovenox and breastfeed just fine! Trust me, the inconvienence of a shot is so much better than a blood clot or pulmonary embolism! They should switch you from lovenox to heparin around 36 weeks since the effects of heparin are reversible, not so with lovenox. You can still have an epidural and breastfeed. I was on heparin 7 weeks post-partum and didn't have any issues.

I was on lovenox with my last pregnancy starting at 5 weeks and now I'm on it again for this pregnancy. We'll be going the same route with this pregnancy as my last. My OB sets a schedule induction and 48hrs before then I go off my lovenox injection. They're in your system 24hrs then they have to be out of your system for at least 24hrs before you can get an epidural. I had no problems after birth with blood clots and never took anything afterwards either but I did recieve 2 pints of blood after delivery. Good luck :)

have u talk to your obgyn about the lovenox
because I have a blood clot disorder and protein s condition and o did give myself the shots when I was in my first trimester but unfortunately I miscarriage at 6.5 weeks
