Finally, I get to share my own birth story

Danielle
Finally, I get to share my own birth story. When I found out I was pregnant I’ll admit I was terrified. At 21, in college, finishing my first degree. My last semester I had pregnancy brain so bad I ended up failing one of my classes. Towards the end of my pregnancy things were dragging on. I wasn’t one of the women who adored being pregnant and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
My pregnancy went 40+5 days. Due August 5th with an induction date set for the 12th, my son joined us earth side on August 10th, 2018. On the night of the 9th I got out of bed to use the restroom. Like any many other days I leaked fluid which I assumed to be urine because I had to use the bathroom anyway I didn’t think much more of it. I had been having contractions all week but could not feel them. Since I was almost a week late  I decided to call the nurses line because my hospital was 2 hours away without traffic. I was told to drive down even though I had no contractions that I could feel and I wasn’t even sure if my water broke.
When arriving at the hospital, I was admitted into triage and they tested the fluid finding a premature rupture in the water bag. At this point my water had been broken since 12 am roughly putting us at about 12 hours. We waited for a room for hours. I waited for a room until roughly 1 am. During this time I was given fentanyl and an oral medication to progress the dilation that wasn’t happening naturally. Eventually the pain medication was not even touching the pain of the contractions so I opted for an epidural. (I really recommend them, even if you’re scared of needles.) after the epidural I was given pitocin and able to get some sleep and at/around 10:30/11 I was ready to start practice pushing. My son had passed a bowl movement in the womb. Towards the end of laboring he was in distress. Anytime a contraction would occur his heart rate would plummet. It was starting to concern the nurses and doctors. At 11:34 AM my son was born. He wasn’t breathing and they had to take him away so the NICU team could work on him. Eventually he was breathing normally and he didn’t even cry. He just began to talk to everyone in the room like he had known us all. So without further ado I’d like to introduce Daxton Henry-Atlas D..
