I was once the ex that a guy talked about to his ‘girlfriend’ (she considered him her boyfriend and he didn’t really see it that way, to him they were just dating). Well, I’m not getting married to that guy, my ex. He wasn’t over me and it was plain as day to everyone, but him, that he was still in love with me. Eventually he realized that he was still in love with me and that wasn’t going to change. So he ended things with her and drove across the country through snow storms to repair what he broke with me (we broke up because I moved away). She ended up heart broken. 
Don’t be someone’s second choice. If he’s not over his ex, then he’s not picking you over her. He’s picking you because he can’t have her. You deserve to be someone’s first choice. He’s not ready to be in a relationship yet and it’s very possible he’ll go back to his ex or at least try to. He might not even realize that’s what’s going on because he’s suppressing feelings. I really suggest walking away and letting him move on. And you can find someone who deserves you and who loves you the way you deserve to be loved. Don’t settle for being a second choice.

SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND HEARTACHE, LEAVE!!!  My ex-husband broke up with his cheating exgf in order to be able to ask me out, I knew he still had feelings for her and thought with time that it would go away. Two years later I found him secretly messaging her on his “work” phone, and then later found out he had been messaging her on MySpace and deleting the history, all while he talked crap about how horrible she was and how she couldn’t stay faithful to any guy she was with, we worked through that, or so I thought. We got married on our 4 year anniversary, then 2.5 years later we agreed on what was supposed to be a trial separation. Two nights after we separated he came into my room to brag about how he was going to go hang out with her then FLAT OUT told me that he had to see if things between them could work out BEFORE he would even THINK about working out our marital issues, you know 6.5 years after they had broken up....yeah I told him I wasn’t coming second to anyone and that we were just going to get a divorce instead of doing a trial separation. I later found out that as soon as we ended our conversation about doing the trial separation, he went straight to Facebook and IMMEDIATELY messaged her to inform her and ask her to hang out, he had never gotten over his feelings for her.
