Question

Why does society think that u need college just to be successful? When i tell my people i'm not going to college after I graduate from highschool... They look at me crazy....but why?

Because statistically people who go to college are more successful. And it’s always good to have a degree to fall back on.

Because a lot of places don’t hire without a college degree. 
I’m not saying college is for everyone and there are certainly issues with the cost of education but there are other options besides going away to a 4 year university right after high school.

Because everyone thinks you have to have a degree to get somewhere in life. It’s not necessarily true. I went to college and got a degree and I’m still where I was before college as far as job/pay. If you have a plan and it doesn’t include college don’t let them get to you.

I completely agree 4 year traditional college is not for everyone. I do feel strongly that everyone needs to learn a legitimate marketable skill. You will be much better off in life with a skill and you will make significantly more money so you can live comfortably. My husband has a CDL, he didn’t go to college, but that’s a marketable skill allowing him to earn way above minimum wage.

Yes college isn’t for everyone but it does open many job opportunities. Even if a degree is not required by the job position, If Max over here completed university with a good GPA, they know he’s got the smarts, work ethic, and dedication needed to do the job, but Bob has had three different random jobs and also applied, they would probably go with Max. But if Bob has ten plus years experience and great recommendations, then they may think about him over that graduate for a job. So If not going to go to college make sure you acquire some skills that will help you out with the future career you want.

There are simply better opportunities, point blank. I know some people don't want to go and that's totally fine. But even if you want to do something that doesn't require a degree, it's great to have it as a backup. Its soooo hard to go back if you change your mind.
