Did having a doula make a big difference?

Hi, ladies! My husband and I are currently TTC our first baby and I am a total planner so I’m thinking ahead and doing some research already. 😆 I’m leaning towards going to a midwife (as opposed to a traditional OB/GYN) and am wondering...for those who had a doula did it make a big difference in your experience? Or do you think you would’ve been fine with just your midwife? I know they have different roles, so just curious.

With our second we had a doula and she was the only reason we made it to the hospital with 5 minutes to spare. My husband was my main birth partner but she recognized when I was in transition, packed the car, and made sure my mom knew where she was going. This time we are going to skip having one bc we are confident in our routine and the hospital is MUCH closer this time. If it’s your first I highly recommend or your first time trying to go unmedicated they can make a huge difference in coping techniques and helping your spouse to support you.

Depends on the midwife...
I LOVED my doula team (there were 2).
I had such a long labor that I got to use both of them.
They helped me understand my options and my body as it was changing during labor. 
They gave my partner and I the confidence we needed to have the birth I wanted.
I don’t think I’ll use a doula my second time around because I learned SO much the first time from them, but we’ll see when the time comes.

I had a doula team (2) for my natural birth 14 days ago. They were AMAZING. My husband and I were so thankful and relieved to have their support and encouragement throughout the whole process. If you are able to and are determined to have a natural birth— I say do it. 
I also had a midwife and she was awesome, too. But she also was not able
to be present the entire time until it came time for check-ins, pushing, and delivery since I gave birth in a hospital. So my husband and I definitely
relied on our doulas!

For me I had a midwife with my first and am going back to the same Midwife for my second. She really did make all the difference and advocated for me when I couldn't. If not for her I would have ended up with a csection instead of a normal delivery. A good midwife will make all the difference whether there is a doula present or not.

We had a doula for my birth a week ago and it was soooo much better than my first time around. This time I went natural and she knew everything to do to keep my sane; from changing positions to massage and pressure in the right places. Helped me focus and breathe and not tense up. I honestly could not have done a natural birth without her help; I know I just would have wimped out and had the epidural. I’m so glad I went natural this time around and had her with me. 100% worth it.

My first husband was not supportive at all in the delivery room so for me a doula was awesome. I'm remarried now and second husband is the opposite so I won't be going with a doula this time and am not worried or concerned.
