Unbearable pain...long

For 6 months now straight I have had extremely bad head and neck pain. I have seen the doctor once-twice a month for the past 6 months about this issue. She has done nothing but refer me to physical therapy which is not working. I want to know why she won't do anything to figure out what's wrong?! Is anyone else's doctor like this? It seriously is so unbearable (ibuprofen only helps so much, and not for very long) I'm considering going to the emergency room. I don't even want medicine. I wanna know what's wrong. I know my body and it isn't right. I'm even more worried because my dad died from a brain tumor. Anyway, if I go to the ER can they really even do anything for me? Anyone know?
