Taking baby to funeral?

Im a first time mom. My son is 6 months old. I just recently lost my grandmother who was like a mother to me. It was very unexpected. Our family has been fortunate enough to not have any close members pass away in a very long time so I’ve never been to a funeral myself. 
I’m wondering if I should bring my 6 month old son or take him to daycare since I have that option? He knew her and spent time with her, but I know he won’t remember any of this. I’m leaning towards letting him go to daycare and then later on once he’s older taking him to the cemetery to see her. This has been extremely hard on me and everyone in our family and I know my son brings a happiness to others in my family when he’s around, but he could also start crying, etc. and I don’t want to cause any problems. 
The service will be very small and only close family will be attending.

At that age, he’s not going to miss anything by missing the funeral. I would not bring my daughter to the funeral at that age, might be too much of a distraction. Not to mention he’ll likely be bored out of his mind! I’m sorry you lost your grandmother

My older two children were 2 years old and 2 months old when my grandmother passed away. I took them with me to her funeral. My grandmother loved my babies and I'm sure would have wanted them there. Plus all of her friends and family were very happy to see them. There's no problem bringing babies to funerals if that's what you want to do. But if you don't feel right about it you don't have to either. There's no right answer. Just do what feels right.

I would. Unless you’re going to be very emotional it might upset him. But my son was 3 months when we had my great uncles funeral. And of course I cried but I was okay, and it helped having him there because everyone was happy to be around him. And they all said it brought joy on that sad day. Especially for my grandma it was her brother and they were very very close, so it made her feel better being with my son especially because they live out of state so they don’t get to see him.

At that age I would put him in daycare. He won't remember and it'll give you a chance to mourn without focusing on being a mother for a few hours.

I’m a funeral director.  A lot moms bring new borns.  Sometimes it is disruptive in a time of grief.  But most of the times, Mother’s bring babies and will also bring things to prevent them from crying.  If they are disruptive, just be prepared to walk away for a bit until he calms down, out of respect.  It will also make others happy to see a cute and small human.
