Doctor said dont come in

So i already past my due date .. im a ftm

Went into Labor and delivery last night i was only 1 CM And 80% effaced with contractions that were every 2-4 minutes according to the nurse . They asked me to describe how the contractions felt , i said they feel like bad period cramps. She said next time for the future if i have contractions that feel like period cramps that its not time yet & for me to not even waste my time coming in . But i heard MANY stories from people who said there labor felt like bad period cramps so im confused ? Do i listen to them and not go in anymore or should i still go if the contractions feel that way ? Im 40+2
