A fast(ish) L&D BIRTH STORY

L&D story

*start with a freeze frame of me on all fours surrounded by nurses and midwives with an oxygen mask on my bed* see that girl right there? That's me. I bet you're wondering how I got here. Well here's that story.

It all begins at 1:30AM, I wake up to go to the bathroom and I noticed a little blood. Being the paranoid preggo lady that I was, I immediately when to call labor and delivery. Except my husband was in bed sleeping, my sister was in the spare bedroom, and my mom was downstairs on the couch. What other choice did I have? The laundry room under a blanket so I wouldn't echo on the phone of course. L&D had me come in since I was 41 weeks anyways. So I woke everyone up and off we went. Half hour drive later and I'm getting checked in and settled into my room. After joking with the nurse about me holding off on an epidural obviously meant that I like pain and 15 minutes after that my contractions hit me like a train. I didn't get to gradually get used to them and try to fight through it. Getting punched in my back and uterus I begged for an epidural. Lucky for me, because of the time and the incoming hurricane there was only one anesthesiologist and she was in an emergency c section. I accepted that I just had to power through it for now. A few hours later I begged again but she was still in the c section. They apologized and I said it fine as long as they're ok and healthy and I powered on. It was 8:30-9AM by the time she came in. She did her thing, I did mine and I was all numbed up. I was a happy girl. They checked me, 3cm dilated, and left. I layed down to finally relax. Now that I felt nothing, everyone told me to sleep for strength later on. I didn't argue and passed out. Some time later I woke up and hung out while my husband was still sleeping. My first sign for trouble was that my sons heartbeat kept slowing. They would come in adjust the monitor, flip me on my side and let him stable then leave. Come back again, adjust the monitor, flip me again, let him stable and leave. It was after the 3rd or 4th time that an army of women came flooding in. They grabbed my sheets and flipped me on my stomach. Next thing I knew my ass was in the air and I was on all fours. They slapped an oxygen mask on me and told me to breath slowly. After about 10 minutes of  torture they said his heart rate dropped dramatically. They all reassured me that he's fine now and just to breath and give him some time. They flipped me back and did some final checks. While they finished up my nurse was reassuring me, she could tell I was really shaken. Once they all left my midwife came in and checked me again. Within an hour or two I had gone from 3cm to 10cm and apparently my son didn't like that at all. Because I was ready to push they had me to a practice push cause of the epidural to make sure I would do it right. My son didn't like that either so we gave him a break. An hour later they came back and asked if I was ready, hell yes! We got all ready and I swear, just maybe 3-4 pushes later. 12:26 PM, He was here. 7lbs 2oz little 20in baby boy. They lift him up and put him straight on my chest. He was here, he was mine, and he was all wet. Unfortunately we couldn't start the hour uninterrupted skin to skin cause he had some fluid in his throat and they were worried about his heart rate but once I got him back the hour started.
