Blood cord banking-thoughts?

Blood cord banking-is anyone doing it? I keep getting inundated with advertisements but haven't looked into it. What are the benefits? How expensive is it?

We are not. If our child was so sick that it would somehow be needed... We believe it would just be their time to go. We will be doing a delayed cutting of the cord though.

After looking into it a lot we decided not to bank (to privetly bank it's about $1,000, otherwise your just donating it) and to delay the cord cutting until after it stops pulsating so baby can get all the benefits from the cord blood.

It's awesome if you can afford it. With a niece diagnosed with neuroblastoma at age 2, and needed a bone marrow transplant makes you think of things like this. We did not do it though because it's so expensive. Wish we could have, you never know.

If anything you can just donate it.  The chances of someone needing it that is an exact match is very slim.  If your child did get sick there is a very good chance you would get it back.  I wanted to do it with my last baby but nobody told me I needed the kit before going to the hospital.
