I am raising a future adult.  I do not like training, sounds like I am working with my dog.  But I raise them with an eye to their future.  Trying to mold them into the kind of adult I try to be and respect.  Ideally with as little baggage as possible.  
Some are only concerned with their child having the ideal childhood, full of butterflies and rainbows.  Now I think those butterflies and rainbows are important too; but I also think that death, loss, disappointment, responsiblity, etc, are equally important.  Because learning to deal correctly with those makes us better adults.

If I have kids this will be how I do it:
1/2 adult training.
1/2 let kids be kids.

I think it needs a balance. Kids are not adults so they won't act like adults. But they also need training to be functioning adults later on

Uhm both. My child needs a childhood and to be a kid so he can be a better adult.

You are raising a future adult. The way you mold your child determines what kind of adult they will be. They are only a child for so long before adulthood comes...and you carry what you are taught in childhood into adulthood.
