Periods and Dysphoria

As an AFAB (assigned female at birth) non-binary, periods can bring some not-so-great feelings about my body and how it is. So here are some tips for my fellow folks who struggle.

•Baggy Clothes are your BEST FRIEND.

During ~that time of the month~ your chest is going to hurt more than usual and binding can cause even more discomfort than is normal. If you can, opt for a tight fitting sports bra with a hoodie over top. Binding may not be the best idea. Plus, baggy clothes are comfy as f***

•Hygiene!!!

I know showering is the last thing you want to do, but trust me, feeling clean will be better in the long run. If the dysphoria is too bad to look at your body, shower in the dark. I know it sounds nuts, but the darkness and warm water are actually super calming and help to take your mind off things.

•Do Something That Gives you Gender Euphoria

If you have long hair, tuck it into a beanie or SnapBack. Contour your face to look more angular. Put in a packer, write sentences referring to yourself with your correct name and pronouns. In my experience, gender euphoria is so much more powerful than dysphoria.

If these don’t work for you, don’t work for you, don’t get yourself down! You will find things that do work for you and this week will be over before you know it. Shine on my loves!!
