need advice

so there’s this guy that I was seeing over the summer but I had to leave for college so I promised him that I wouldn’t do anything (like sexually) with anyone else. I mean we weren’t officially a couple or anything but I guess in his mind we were??

Anyway, a few weeks ago I did something that he didn’t like and he didn’t speak to me for a few days. During that minor break, I happened to unintentionally hookup with someone cause I thought it was over between us. But it wasn’t. (is this considered cheating?)

We started talking again and I thought everything was gonna be good (except for the massive guilt I felt) except a friend at college told me he really liked me too and that we wants us to be a couple. Everyone says he’s a much better person than the guy from back home.

I went home this weekend and I met with the guy and told him what I did because I thought it was the right thing to do. I really hurt him and he said that we can’t even be friends anymore after the stupid shit I’ve done. I understand completely but I really don’t want to let him go I really like him. I tried apologizing over text (or should i have called?) but he hasn’t replied. Should I give him time or should I just stop and let him go? Please anything helps.
