Epidural?

What are your thoughts on an unmedicated birth vs epidural?

I’m 33 weeks and 2 days. I started my pregnancy planning on having a natural in hospital birth with a lovely midwife. Fast forward, this pregnancy has been a high risk nightmare. I’m on a ton of meds, placenta insufficiency, twice weekly NSTs, weekly ultrasounds, OB and internal med appoints weekly. I’ll either be having a c section or be hooked up to a fetal monitor and induced before 37 weeks if I make it. So long story short, give me whatever to get me through this. Epidural it is. 
Don’t care anymore. Just give me my baby healthy.

Whatever works for people really.
I couldn't care less. If people want to do it without go for it. If people want to get it, go for it. Whatever makes a woman comfortable when giving birth!

I personally choose to birth naturally after a bad experience with the epidural with my first. 
Everyone is different though. There is no right or wrong answer.

FTM here & I want the epidural. More power to you if you want to do natural. I know my pain tolerance & there’s no way I’m doing it without some relief.

I’ll pass. I’m low risk and just basically waiting to go into labor. I want to labor mostly at home. Hopefully birth there as well. The hospital is 5 streets away should I need it.
I want to be able to control my pushing and body. My mom regrets having done it with her oldest. The side effects and complications to her weren’t worth it. 
My brother that was born second was massive and she did it natural and enjoyed the experience more.
My birth the most because she just had an awesome midwife and got to choose how it all went down.
What most people don’t hear is that epidurals are given way after you’re already in pain. There’s markers they want you to meet before they’ll administer. Epidurals don’t always work either.

I had epidural with both my boys will do it again if i have another kid made labor pleaserable and easy for me to handle

I would personally prefer to try and do it with no epidural, but only because I’ve heard of so many women having back problems after getting it. Especially the women in my family. But who knows when that time comes, I’ll probably itch for it like a druggie lol

I think it depends on the woman. You really can’t say till you’re in labor what you’ll do honestly. 
At least I can’t say 100% what I’ll do because things can always change from what I plan. But I don’t think what you choose for pain matters honestly. You’re still getting a precious baby at the end of it and most of the time things go well. :)

I had an an epidural with my daughter, and my labor was a breeze. I had two hours of hard contractions before I was able to receive the epidural, and I was able to rest and enjoy labor, even into delivery stages. Granted, I threw up every day and was miserable most of the pregnancy, so labor seemed pretty easy in comparison. My best friend had a nightmare with an epidural, had two placed, neither worked, and I’m not sure if she just didn’t respond well, or if the techs were idiots (I’m inclined to say the latter). As long as your baby gets here safely, don’t feel pressured one way or the other. It’s a very personal choice. Some women hate the idea of their babies being effected by an epidural during delivery, but they’re considered safe, and they’re not actually proven to lengthen labor or anything. Do what you feel is best, momma.
