Contagious infection with sores

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, but I’d like to see if anyone has any experience in this. My husband has been training in the field for months, and developed sores on his inner thighs that crusted over into scabs but kept opening, he figured they were from chafing and all the stuff they do in the dirt. We then had sex 2 weeks ago after not seeing each other, and I developed a sore on the front of my crotch (not near genitals) but where his sores came in contact with my skin. Now I believe he would not cheat, but the hygiene practices when they’re in the field are close to none (disgusting) so I think he may have contracted some sort of infection, any ideas what it could be? It’s not herpes, it’s not near either of our genitals and looks nothing like herpes.

And please don’t bother commenting if you’re going to say go get checked, obviously I’m already doing that.
