Do you believe in "big pharma"?

Question

When it comes to "Big Pharma" there are a lot of consipracy theories, from the anti-vaxx movement, to cures for cancer being hidden, to doctors being paid to diagnose certain diseases in order to prescribe certain medications.
What do you know about Big Pharma? What do you believe is closest to the truth about these large pharmaceutical companies and our health care?

Not really since the conspiracy theories only seem to apply to the USA where medication is extremely costly

Yes I think the pharmaceutical companies aren’t ethical with pricing and the fact that they market products. But I don’t think of it in a conspiracy sort of way. Its just common sense. We’ve all grown up hearing “there are no ethics in business” or something of those sorts. And while I do believe there are companies who can be ethical, the goal of most companies is to make money. Even pharmaceutical companies. And even hospitals. The fact that things are so expensive in hospitals blows my mind. But I still trust my doctor to prescribe things responsibly. Not all doctors have great intentions, but I think most do and I think most are honest, as well.

I have to say I agree with Rogue most of the conspiracy theories come from America where it's common knowledge that healthcare is costly. 
I think the thing that annoys me the most about these kind of conspiracy theories is the misconception that there's a cure for cancer. That implies that cancers straightforward and that one cure could cure them all when that's not possible..  There are so many different types of cancer with different strains that one cure just wouldn't be possible for all. Which is what everyone seems to believe.

Seeing as how pharma companies are public so there for the shareholders and their stocks... make billions yet only a fraction goes to R&D, and most of our country is on some type of prescription yes, bigpharma is real. I think we have lower standards than other countries when it comes to what we allow in our food and products we use (the FDA is a joke) thus making more people sickly and pharma’s there to pump out the pills. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Given most of our drugs and vaccines on the market started out in animal health, I highly doubt there is some huge conspiracy going on. 
Do I think the US needs more ethical pricing and low to no cost (ie paid for by taxes) doctor visit and hospital coverage? Hell yes.

They artificially inflate costs of drugs, and push over prescribing, but that’s all well known and documented. I don’t buy the wacky conspiracy theories. Most of them don’t even make sense.

I have half a mind to put "former tinfoil hat heiress" in my bio. I used to be this way. When I saw the light about my relationship with that theorist and how knee deep I was in theories, it was saddening to see how much it escalated. 
Nowadays I believe in a happy medium. For example, my ex (of whom which for me into that world to begin with) wouldn't let me see a counsellor nor take my anti psychotic meds if I was having an episode.
Mushrooms and marijuana aren't a cure all, prescribed medications aren't a bad thing and I will trust a professional who knows me well enough over something I read in a David Icke excerpt.

The flu shot is fishy AF.

Okay, but why did u have the flu EVERY single year I got the flu shot. I haven't received the shot in a solid 15 years. I haven't had the flu since. Don't bother trying to explain it to me. I've done sooooo much research. I know just about everything you can know about the flu shot. Still doesn't add up. 
I'm not the only person who has experienced this too. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I don’t believe in conspiracy theories. Are there certain people and companies that are assholes and don’t practice medicine or pharmacy (or whatever) the way they should? Of course. And it’s sad. But as a whole? No. Plus, my whole family works in the medical field or for the government and my dad is a pharmacist so at least where they work, there’s nothing shady going on.
