If you didn’t go to college, what is your current job?

How much do you make? Are you comfortable living or are you living paycheck to paycheck? Do you wish you would’ve gone to college?

Answer

I didn’t go to college. I was waitressing my young 20’s, which I loved because I was making around $1000 a week. It was a totally party life. I was told I wasn’t able to have kids so me and my so were fine with the party life. Then when I was 24 I got pregnant by surprise. I didn’t find out till I was 13 weeks along. I had been having unprotected sex with my SO for 7 years with no pregnancy so it was a huge shock. I switch to hosting during my pregnancy to be a little easier on my body. I moved across Texas to be closer to my mom so she could help with child care while I worked. I took a 4 month maternity leave from work. When I went back I started again as a waitress but worked my ass off to get as many promotions and raises as possible. 6 months after going back to waitressing, I was event  coordinator at a local golf coarse club making 15$ an hour. One of my regulars owned a insurance agency and said he loved my professionalism and work ethic. He hired me as one of his agents and paid for all my classes and licensing I needed. I now work 8-5 Monday-Friday all paid holidays off. 100% paid 401k, 2 weeks paid vacation time every year, and a boss that understands I have a 2 year old that I need flexibility for sometimes. I now make salary $80,000 a year. Moral of my story, if you work your ass off, you can do it. You either have to work your ass off in college or work your ass off in the real world. But you don’t NEED college. I’m the only one of my siblings that didn’t go to college. And I’m the only one of my sibling that aren’t drowning in debt. I have absolutely zero debt.

I went and got my bachelors after struggling to find a decent job. I graduated at 31 and I am so proud/happy I decided to get my degree. However, not all degrees are equal. I don't have to work so I didn't go to college to graduate and make 6 figures I went for something I loved so I double majored social work and social science specifically history. So I could teach or be a social worker. I wanted a rewarding cushy job not a corporate make 6 figures job.

I went to college and got my CNA license. But that job was just not for me. Kudos to anyone who lives as a CNA. 
I now work as a diet aide in a nursing home and I make 15.10 and 15.90 on the weekends. I'm part of a union. At 40 hours I recieve plenty of benefits and I love where I am.

I went but my SO didn’t. He works at the Publix warehouse in the banana room (yes, it’s a thing). He makes $19.80 an hour with benefits. I only make $2.20 more an hour than him and I don’t get any benefits

I don't wish I had gone. I don't think there is much security in going. You can't predict that you will absolutely get the job you went to school for. It's too risky to me to pay thousands of dollars just to end up where I am now.
