National guard RESERVES not active.

My fiance and I are going to get married next month and we also have two kids, a 2 yr old and an almost 2 month old. He is going to join the national guard reserves, I don't know what to expect from this? He's told me all of the benefits, were going to sit down with the recruiter together just to explain it all again to me, before he does MEPS next month. For some reason I'm just not retaining the info or understanding what to expect from this. Does anyone have any experience or opinions with this? I dont know how to feel!
