If you have dogs, do you crate them when they’re left alone in the house?

I’ve had my dog for 4 years and I’ve never thought about crate training him. Hell he doesn’t even have a crate. He is left home alone for 3-4 hours a few days a week due to our schedule. We never found the house destroyed, we even recorded him for the first few weeks when he was a pup to see what he was doing while we were gone and he’d just go to sleep right after we left and move around the house to find a new sleeping spot 😂 he’s a great dog, he never chewed or destroyed anything in the house so we never thought of crate training him.
