So second baby

Ashli

So second baby. First one preemie and all natural. Came with in 4 hours of labor and 10 min of pushing. But then complications with getting out placenta, couldn’t get IV and stitching me up with no pain meds ..... not the best. Then a baby in nicu for a month. This time I told myself it would be different ! Well no way to prepare lol. Water broke at 1130 am. Was 37 weeks 4 days. Water kept trickling down legs when I would stand. I said, this has to be it. Called doc. Was told to come down. Took our time, left an hour later and started having contractions in car. Contractions were coming more regular in triage. When first checked, 5 cm. (Already?!?)  Over ONE hour, contractions got more quick and intense and felt like they were coming every 2 minutes and then I had the sudden urge to push. They checked me again, still 5 cm. I was shocked. I felt like I had to push baby out. Another hour of the painful every 2 min contractions and being yelled at not to push I asked them to check me again. I was 10 cm. (I knew it!) but baby was at 0 station. So at pelvic bone. He said you still can’t push. I was in agony trying not to do what came natural for me.  I was begging for epidural by that point. I had to hold back pushing the entire time he was trying to get it in. Finally, the epidural kicked in and he wanted me to rest if I could and let the baby come down more into canal. After 1.5 hours he wanted me to push. They turned me on back and I felt like I was going to throw up. Bp dropped to 80/40 and baby heart rate dropped for 10 min. He said protocol was to bring to OR after 7 min but he said he would give me 10. They turned me back on side and bolused me with fluid. His heart rate returned to normal at the 10 min mark. Wanted me to wait another half hour and try again. Went to try and contractions had stopped and I couldn’t push correctly. I told them to just shut off epidural. They said you may want to wait bc we are starting pitocin. Pitocin started and contractions returned immediately to every 2 min. Pushed for 2 hours. Able to see head entire time and couldn’t get him out. Lowered the epidural and was able to give some good pushes. Pulled him out myself :-) baby doing great but I am unable to urinate after delivery. They think due to prolonged second stage of labor / traumatic vaginal birth. Went home with Foley catheter. They said I should have had a ceasarian just based on the time logs. But happy I got to have him vaginally and just dealing w some after mass. Hopefully foley can come out this week with no further set backs!
