Should I date my lifelong best friend

So my friend and I have been friends since we were 5. I love him to pieces but idk how he feels about me. Like I’m afraid of ruining my friendship with him, or something happening to where we aren’t friends anymore. We are both 16, so we’ve been friends for 11 years. He’s realllly cute like idk why I never tried to go out with him but I think he’s really cute. Anyways please help me!!
