When do you hire a Doula?

If all goes well, this will be our first child. My first pregnancy ended in MC around 5/6wks, so I had barely started to consider all my options. This is our rainbow baby and one thing I have decided is that I would like to get a Doula, so I’m wondering how far along before I should start activity contacting local Doulas? I’m currently 4wks2days.

I hired mine around 30 weeks. We weren’t going to hire one, but I met her at our birthing class and I just knew I needed to hire her. She was amazing. I was in labor for 43 hours and ended up with an emergency c-section. I don’t know what we would have done without her. Well worth the money!

I found one who I love so much! And i hired her at probably around 10 weeks and she has been such a big support for me through out my pregnancy! 💗

I hired a Doula at 12 weeks, there aren’t many in my area so their calendars tend to fill fast. It gave me peace of mind knowing I had it taken care of. Also I got 24/7 support starting from when the contract was signed so the sooner the better (get more for your money)

28ish weeks for us, but it happened the way someone else mentioned. We took a birth class and we knew we needed the doula team during our birth. We hired them after the class.

I would not even stress about it till you get out of your first trimester.  But birth class teachers are a great start. We decided to use bradley which is husband coached childbirth but our teacher was just so amazing and we knew we couldnt get through this without her. We went early to birth class because my husband is an accountant and the next classes would start in January which would have been better but were due early April and decided to go early so he would actually soak up all the information we learned rather than during tax season when he will be busy. She's completely into holistic childbirth and care. She managed 2 of her 4 births at home one of which was 10 lbs at birth. Shes been a doula for 10 years though which is awesome and the secrets she contains about different things are completely relatable and helpful!

I contacted my doula for the first pregnancy around week 32ish I think. She is now just teaching classes and not doing doula services so I found another who seems amazing for my current pregnancy and wrote her at 5 weeks to make sure she will be available during my estimated due date. If it’s a specific person you want then you can just double check they’ll be available, but you probably won’t see them until 3rd trimester. If you don’t know who you want then you can wait a while until 2nd trimester at least before you contact them!
