Is it wrong to ask for help for funereal cost?

My father passed away tonight that I haven’t seen in over 5 years. We didn’t have a great relationship but he’s still my father. He has no life insurance and I don’t have the funds to do anything. Would I be wrong to ask for help from friends and family?

Im not sure about your fathers wishes or your family's beliefs, but when my uncle passed away my aunt (his ex wife) gathered enough to have him cremated and then held a small memorial service at her house. It was kind of a potluck and that helped keep cost down and everyone who could help pitched in.

Of course not. People do Gofundme all the time for this type of thing. Funerals can be so expensive. Sorry for your lost!

Some states off funeral assistance. It's usually through DHS and they require you to bring in a ton of info and fill out an application. If not, some funeral homes will allow you to do a payment plan, just have to ask. I'm a hospice social worker and see this a lot with the families I work with.

It's perfectly fine. All they can say is no. We got plenty of help for my moms cremation.
