Trip advise

I’m going on a trip and I was just wondering if I should pack my bag of liquids and my straightener in my luggage or in my carry-on? Also what things do I need to take out of my carry on to put on the plastic trays? I know it may be a dumb question but this is my first time flying. In my carry-on ( which is just a backpack ) I’m packing my phone, phone charger, wallet, passport, keys, a book, and headphones.
