38+1, Version Scheduled Today

So, I haven’t been in at huge hurry to get this baby moving since she’s been transverse for weeks, just like her brother, head stuck in my right side. Upside being neither of them bounced off my bladder all the time, so there is that. On Monday I got Braxton Hicks all day, some of them downright painful, so I called up to see what to keep an eye on, last time my water broke so I missed the entire should I go to the hospital or stay home stage. Had another ultrasound (and regular prenatal) yesterday, apparently she flipped the other way, head now in my left side (she kicked for all she was worth at the sore spot left by head butts in my right side the entire ride up). Other than the worry by everybody that she was getting too big (high 8’s, one mention of 9lb), we decided to keep the version appointment for today. Get there today, and the actual average settled on was 8lb8oz, so still within a good range to do the version. There was a discussion that there is a slight possibility of shoulder dysplasia, so I may end up needing a c-section anyway, but I opted to continue with the version (my side of the family has comparatively small shoulders), because I still very much prefer a vaginal birth, if possible. The ultrasound looks good, head quite a ways down already, so we got started on the epidural. Blood pressure dipped quite low a couple of times, so among other things they had me roll to one side, then the other. As soon as they get that stabilized, another look with the ultrasound showed she shifted herself head down! So after all that, no version for me...at least recuperating from the epidural was only an hour instead of 4, and I also didn’t need another rhogam shot in the butt. Was given a very uncomfortable belly band to wear to encourage her to stay head down. Been getting loads more Braxton Hicks tonight, and now I feel like I can start doing all the things to encourage labor, so it feels like progress. Not tonight, though, too tired.
