If he's suggesting FWB, it's because he's not man enough to handle a real relationship and accepting less will not help him respect you. That being said I was in a FWB situation once because I wasn't ready for a relationship, but i quickly got attached and things changed. By the end of it the tables totally turned and it was one of the most stressful relationships of my life. I just recommend staying away from that all together.
