Feeling nervous

I’m 42 and I’m currently 7 days late. I done a test a couple of days ago and it showed a negative reading. My cat won’t leave my side, sleeps right up next to me and is currently sitting on my lap as close to my stomach as he can get. Is he trying to tell me something? Last month my period lasted 2 days and they were very light, not like they normally are. I have grown children and 2 granddaughters. My husband just turned 35 and would love a child of his own. Have we left it to late? Am I starting menopause? I’m way to nervous to test again incase it’s a negative as my husband knows I’m late and keeps smiling at me when I say that my period hasn’t arrived yet. How much longer should I leave it to test again?
