Pelvic floor and exercise postpartum

Natalie

So I went to go see a pelvic floor PT as I am almost 6 weeks postpartum. I wanted to get assessed before I started exercising again. I was weightlifting 4-5x a week before I delivered. Although I knew I would have to ease back into things, I wanted to see what exercises I would be able to do and get an idea of where to start. My pelvic floor is weak as I’m still having difficulty holding urine when I sneeze or cough or sometimes if my bladder is full. I don’t have any abdominal separation and she said that was very good. But I asked her about lifting weights and she said that classes like Zumba are good but heavy lifting or deep squats with weights can be bad for my pelvic floor. I’m just frustrated. She gave me a list of exercises to do (kegels and core strengthening) and she said to come back 3 months postpartum. Zumba is not my thing. I want to get back to lifting! Of course I’ll do whatever Is best for the long term But I’m just wondering if the info she gave me is accurate or I should get a second opinion? If your pelvic floor is weak should you avoid doing weights? Help!!
