Is ICSI only done if there is a sperm issue?

ICSI is included in my IVF package but my doctor said they only do It if there is a reason. We are unexplained infertility so fertilization could be the issue. I might demand It cause why not, if we are spending all of this money why not do It. My fear is none will fertilize. This is the most recent semen analysis (getting another one done next month)

Some clinics only do ICSI because it has better fertilization rates (so it improves their clinic stats). We did ICSI because of low count. I would ask them to do for better fertilization rates since your package includes it anyways.

I think this depends on facility policy. My first RE didnt do ICSI or assisted hatching at this time my DH was normal. My new RE, ICSI and assisted hatching are apart of treatment so my DHs low count is irrelevant unless come game day he has a zero count or cant preform but we are going to freeze some just in case anyhow.

We did ICSI and did not have any sperm issues. I had two miscarriages before turning to IVF and the only reason we’re doing IVF is so we can eliminate possible genetic issues. So we did ICSI so that we could do PGS testing. It is necessary if you so any genetic testing.

My clinic did icsi and hatching when you select to do pgs since they need to take the cell out anyway.

Our clinic does ICSI for everting and assisted hatching with all frozen transfers. I had 9/9 mature eggs fertilize with this my second round and 4/5 mature eggs fertilize the first round. I have zero complaints and I’m really happy it was done. Round one we used my husbands bad sperm and round two was with donor sperm (good quality and all so technically they could have skipped it, but I’m so glad they didn’t).

My doctor offered it as an option, but we choose not to do so because we didn't really have a reason to do it. Without it you have multiple sperm competing, so you end up with the healthiest one fertilizing the egg. Had my egg retrieval two weeks ago. They got six eggs and all of them fertilized.
