Heart ache, help, what should I do

I was in a new relationship with a guy who seemed head over heels about me, told me he could see his future with me. We seemed to be so happy on cloud nine and he texted me one day he just saying I wanted something more serious than him and he can't do it, he wants to remain friends but there's too many feeling. I'm so lost and confused. Its only been three days since we last talked (broke up) since it was out of no where I don't know what to do. My heart is tugging I just want to talk to him to understand but I don't know if he will answer or if I'm gonna get the answer I want to hear. My friends have been telling me to walk away and just forget about him but my heart hurts too much to do that and everything was perfect I don't understand what happened I need closure
