Period when having sex for the first time !! 😫

I’m taking a trip with my bf, and we are getting a hotel already booked the room , got candles, rose pedals, lingerie , etc been together for a while now and we want to take it to the next step and for it to be romantic BUT MY PERIOD IS GOING TO START ! 😫

Just started taking my birth control a week ago so hopefully it will put it on hold . Any other advice ?! I heard a shower helps .
