***UPDATE***Landlord and Social security number???

This is way off topic but I need someone’s help. I am in the process of looking for a place and I am wondering if a landlord or property management can search up your employment through your social security number?
***I only asked this question because on their website it said verification of social security number may be requested to verify credit history and proof of income. 
Also to the one that said that they’re curious on what I do. At the moment I’m a stay at home mom with a 5 month old, 9 year old and 7 year old. Lol so I don’t do anything that is illegal or anything in that nature lol

I just went thru this and they want it for background checks and credit checks they usually call your employer to verify if you are working and they ask for proof of income by bank statements or paid stubs

The social is for your credit report and also a background check.
