Second wedding?

Hi all!
I’m engaged for the second time. This will be my second marriage. My fiancé has never been married. I was married a few years ago and it was a short marriage but had a relatively big wedding, gown cake bridesmaids etc. he doesn’t want a BIG wedding and I think we should just elope or go to a courthouse. I feel embarrassed to have a second wedding like my family and friends won’t take this marriage seriously or would want to contribute to it. What do you all think? Big wedding is still a no but I feel this one is RIGHT and want those special bride feelings...and also kinda want the fancy dress again. I just want some other opinions. Thanks!

Does someone you know have a nice garden? How about a garden wedding with the closest of family and friends only, you still get the "princess gown"  but don't over do it on other things.

You could do a small wedding. I was gonna have mine by a lake but it started pouring the rain so we had to move it😭. It’s was really pretty setting tho. Only had maybe 15/20 ppl there. It was my 1st and hopefully one wedding but we didn’t want something big. It was basic and traditional. My close family and his best friend were the only ppl there ( his parents didn’t approve so they weren’t invited and didn’t know til weeks later). It was nice and easy to set up. Had snacks and sandwiches ( easy to make finger foods) for the reception so nobody had to be up cooking all day or night.

Do what's best for you. If you want a wedding go for it, if not have a court wedding then go on a nice honeymoon

I think you should have whatever kind of wedding you want. But I am concerned that you feel you need to have a big fancy wedding to legitimize your marriage in the eyes of your family. This will probably come off as harsh but 1) the wedding has nothing to do with the marriage and 2) marriage is about the two people in it and not about the people around it. If you’re concerned about the “legitimacy” of your marriage before you’re even married I’d encourage you to think on that long and hard before you go any further. FWIW I’m remarried (as is my husband), we had a beautiful and very small 10 person wedding just for immediate family and one friend that we loved, but I never had a single doubt about the legitimacy of my marriage just because it was a second marriage or a small wedding. My marriage is legitimate because DH and I are committed to each other and to raising our family together, not because of any wedding, small or large.

I had a huge expensive wedding the first time around. With my now husband we had a very intimate ceremony with only a few people. His family wasn’t even there lol

I'm similar to you! I'm getting married for the 2nd time, itll be my fiance's first. My first wedding was like 140 people but it was cheap because I was young and poor and didn't want anyone else to pay for it. It was still nice though. My fiancé just wants family and a couple close friends. Because it's his first and he's in his 40s I knew his parents wouldn't be happy if we did courthouse lol.. plus that's not really what either of us want. So this wedding is still not extravagant but I'll be spending a bit more. I'm still getting a fancy dress and all that. You deserve to have a special wedding!

My cousin had two big weddings and everyone enjoyed the second one as much as the first. Just because you’ve been married once before does not take anything away from this marriage. I would go as big as you want!

I would keep it small and intimate. I very much think people will have negative thoughts on your wedding being that you were only married a few years ago. Have only those that are close and important to you there. But don’t let it stop you from getting the dress!!
