Genital warts

Hi everyone, so basically since about one and a half years ago i've had this sore spot down there that sometimes seemed to come out of nowhere. It would flare up but i never really knew what it was. So today I decided i would have a good look at it and i think i might have genital warts. There are a few small skin coloured bumps around my vaginal opening. I will be visiting my dokter monday but was wondering if any of you have any experience and if you ever felt pain during sex because of them? Also, when are they contagious?
