Just confused

I’m 38 weeks and I went to L&D for contractions every 5 minutes for two hours. I was 3 cm dilated and 75% effaced. I was sent home because I was contracting but my cervix wasn’t dilating. The doctor told me to come back when they’re 2-3 minutes apart. No biggie. I stopped having contractions three days later(today). I went in for my weekly checkup and she wanted to check my cervix. I was at a 1 1/2 cm. 🙄 what? She said it is because the babies Head isn’t pushing down on my cervix.
