Have you and your SO split up because if religious differences?

I’m an atheist and my boyfriend is a Christian and I’m honestly scared to tell him I’m an atheist because I feel like he’s going to break up with me. 😕

I personally wouldn’t date someone who’s religious in the first place. I live in Canada though and our religious population is significantly smaller than the USA’s so you have to go to very specific areas to find truly religious people. 
The most religious person in our friend group lives out of the city in the farming town, goes to church most sundays, but also tells us every time she’s drunk about how much she loves anal ahahha

I am a faithful Christian. I know that I would t have dated someone who was not. It is not a lifestyle that I would want to be a part of. Especially if children were brought into the mix. But I think that you should certainly tell him. It’s not fair to him if you don’t.

We almost did. My boyfriend was strictly raised in a Baptist church, while I grew up with no organized religion. To be honest my grandma and mother raised my sisters and I pagan for the first ten years of my life. However today, my mom encourages us to find our own path. Anyways, about 6 months into dating, my boyfriend knew I wasn’t very religious. We actually had a serious talk once about the future and how our values lined up. Through that I learned that his religion is a big part of him and he would be a hypocrite if he married someone that wasn’t a believer. I told him that this shouldn’t be a problem because we are still very young, therefore have time before we have to think about marriage. However because of how he was raised he sees dating as directly leading to marriage or breaking up. He also told me that maybe one day I’ll change his mind, however I told him that “I don’t want to change you, I want to understand you.” Because the last thing I want to do is make him think that he has to lose part of himself to be with me. Anyways we’re still together and we’ve been in a relationship for 10 months. We haven’t had sex yet because of his religion, but in the conversation we had I told him that I respect his decision. We haven’t talked about religion since then, but I’m still worried that he’s still questioning the worth of our relationship in the back of him mind. Is there any advice from people who made religious/non religious relationships work, because I would really appreciate the help. (And also thank you for reading my long ass comment of me venting)

My ex is a Christian and when he found out I was Catholic he made fun of me for it like he told me that Mary is a nobody or whatever and honestly I’m just catholic but I’m not into that stuff I guess it’s like whatever to me and my ex took Christian stuff seriously like he will tell me to talk to god and learn about him and etc but me I’m different yes I believe in God,Jesus and Mary but I’m just not into it if that makes sense but idk people are different but I think you should give it a go

I think everyone is different. I’d say most of the time it’s best to be with people who have the same beliefs, but I also think most people are mature and respectful enough to accept and support different beliefs from their own. I’ve always questioned things, but want to believe I’m something and my boyfriend is straight up atheist and I’m cool with that. I have friends who have a Jewish parent and a Christian parent and they just go to temple and church. If you love someone enough, you’ll respect each other’s views and compromise. And honestly I think it’s better for children to have that kind of upbringing. My parents never pushed their beliefs on me and have always taught me to seek it out myself and that they’ll love me no matter what I believe or don’t and that’s how it should be just in life I’m general. BUT, if it causing a problem and neither person can get over the fact that one has different beliefs and are trying to change each other, I think that would be time to break things off. It’s all about respect.
