Has anyone ever had to get their property taxes reassessed?

Hey ladies!
Has anyone had to hire a lawyer to get their property taxes reassessed? My husband and I bought our home in 2017. We live in a rural community. Our taxes were 2,300 a year when we moved in. After we renovated they were 3,000 for 2018. Now they are a whopping $5,700 a year.
Anyone have any experience on how all of this works?

That’s what happens when you renovate especially if you added on square footage such as an addition. Did you verify the increase isn’t because referendums were approved or to pay for an increase in county and city services?  A lawyer can help but it is a lengthy process and it doesn’t always get granted.

It will go up if you renovate, that’s why lots of people don’t get city licenses they don’t want their taxes going up since it’s based on your home value. Also I know for us it went up when they started building another school for our city. Generally homes in the same area will have very similar taxes, you need to look at similar homes in your neighborhood that were recently sold and see how much they’re going for. You need to pretty much show them why their appraisal is wrong and that your home isn’t worth as much as they say.
