Coordination loss in 17 month old?

LO just turned 17 months on the 9th and for about the last week has been having some trouble with his coordination. He's been falling alot (with lots of injuries; some pretty bad) and it's starting to concern me a little. They brought it up at daycare because it seems like every step he tries to take, he tumbles or trips.

We just went for his checkup yesterday and no ear infection or anything abnormal, but a teacher suggested maybe a growth spurt? Anyone deal with this before?
