Mommas with ADHD kids (Posted this in two groups btw)
How old was your child when they were diagnosed with ADHD? My son is three, he hasn’t been diagnosed yet but tomorrow is his evaluation to see about it and I’m just worried he’s still too little.
Not to mention I was told I should probably get him evaluated back in August (he had literally just turned three a week 1/2 before his first day) on his very first day of Headstart by his teacher because of the way he acted on that day. (He wouldn’t sit still, kept crying, wouldn’t listen to the teacher, and was running away from the class) she also told me I should pull him out until he was evaluated so I did, he literally went to school that one day before he was pulled out.
I have ADHD myself and my doctor wouldn’t even talk about diagnosing me until I turned 5 just because she felt that was the appropriate age.
It’s taken me six months to get this appointment so I wanted to take him just in case, just to see what they say, but I also don’t want him to possibly be misdiagnosed or something. I’m just nervous, when they told me to get him evaluated for it I went home and cried for hours because I feel like it’s my fault if he has it, because it basically is.
And his dad keeps telling me to wait and that he’s too little and “nothings wrong with our son” but I just feel like it would be best to take him just to see, I would rather go now and if he has it they can give him proper care instead of waiting 2-3 more years and find out that whole time he had it and we weren’t doing anything about it. You know?
I just don’t know what to do. I’m also very young and this is my first child so I want to make the best choices for him that I can.
