What were your levels at to be on insulin

Okay so this is my second time with gestational diabetes. But the first time i only would check my levels about half the time and my doctor just never seemed concerned or even really checked it. Well Ive officially been diagnosed for around a week now this time and my levels are usually between 130 and 180 at the one hour mark no matter what i eat. 😑 one day after eating a buffet it was 270! I really don’t want to be on insulin. What point did you need insulin? My next appointment is Friday they mentioned something about a referral to a mfs which I’ve never done before either. 
 My second baby was born at 39.4 weighing 9 pounds and 2 ounces. They originally told me the would induce early and never did and i was also in labor for 3 weeks and wouldn’t progress. So I’m also wondering if i might actually get induced this time

I stayed between 135 and 190 after meals now I'm on insulin. With those numbers you probably will be too.

I was supposed to be below 95 fasting and below 140 one hour after meals. I never had a problem after meals but the fasting values were too high (though usually just by 2 or 3 points). Their threshold was 50% in any category, so once 50% of fasting values were over they put you on insulin. After 2 weeks of testing I had slightly fewer than 50% over value but it was close enough they still wanted me to get on it. I was really trying to avoid it but once I finally gave in and accepted my fate it was actually kind of a relief since trying to fix my fasting values through diet alone became a huge stressor - because really there is only so much you can do, but I felt like a failure every time I went over. Also, I have finally realized it’s much better to get your GD under control (using whatever it takes) than it is to avoid insulin at all cost, even though I, too, really hated the idea of insulin. If you can get it under control your chances of having a normal pregnancy and birth as well as a baby without problems are so much higher, and that kind of beats avoiding insulin at all cost.

Expect to be on meds soon. Are you counting carbs? Make sure you meet with a dietician if you havent already. On Facebook there is a gestational diabetes support group wth tons of excellent info. Even with being on my 3rd pregnancy with GD, I still have questions! I was not diet controlled last pregnancy and was on a lot of insulin and baby was 10lbs 13oz. Honestly I didntdo a good job. I’m trying to work really hard this time figuring out what I can and cannot eat and when. For instance I can have zero carbs for breakfast or my numbers are too high. But i can have a normal serving of anymore any dinner I want including pizza or pasta. Sweets are of course out but I don’t like them anyways right now. Good luck

I only had a couple elevated fasting levels in a 5 day span. My numbers were pretty good too because I was really watching my diet and exercising. I'd be at like 125 after meals. Didn't matter. The reasoning was that it was basically inevitable that I would eventually have to start insulin as GD gets worse throughout pregnancy - also being at the high end of the limits- so I may as well start now. I've just started insulin at night and its not bad. I'm bummed that I have all these new routines and rules, but its important to trust the doctors and take good care of ourselves.
