How much should a 35 years old saved by now?

I read it twice of the annual salary, is that reasonable?  What is your insight?

I’ve only ever saved the money I needed to put down a deposit for my house. I bought the house 7 years ago and since then i have not saved anything. What for? I have a house, two cars, all the gadgets i need. I have opened a savings account for my son and will deposit a fix amount each month after he is born, i suppose that counts as savings even if i’ll never access that moneyfor myself. 
My parents saved all their life and still do, i remember growing up there was always something, saving to redecorate the house, to buy a new car, to build a holiday home, to change the kitchem appliances.. to send me to college, to pay for my wedding etc etc. I always had the feeling that they didn’t enjoy themselves much because of this so I promised myself I will not live like that. 
Plus there’s a reason God invented credit cards - to pay for things you want but don’t need or for things you need but can’t afford.

I guess that would maybe be accurate if you lived the ideal life, never had debts, and had a house given to you. Or more realistically, figured out how to successfully invest.

honestly I think it depends on your life and choices. for example, are you married? do you have children? do you plan to pay for their college or education? do you own a home? do you plan to do these things? it's going to be different for each individual.
