Pacifiers and potty training

A friend of mines 3 years old daughter still uses pacifiers. Still isn't potty trained. She's enrolled in swim and dance class. Constantly getting ear infections. Am I the only one who thinks more time should be spent potty training the child, than dance class? The ear infections, i also believe to be a result of the pacifiers at this age. Thoughts?
