Have you or will you teach your baby sign language?

Just curious on how many mommas or dads plan on teaching their baby sign language?! I started when my baby was 6 months and it’s made our lives sooo much easier.

I loved teaching my baby sign language as well. I only taught her a few signs, but I really thought it helped cut back on tantrums because she could communicate. Huge fan!

I’m an ASL interpreter and I will have a bilingual child. I taught sign to my friends kids when they were little and it helped a lot with lowering their frustration. Such a good thing to do for you and your child.

Hahaha I’m Hard of Hearing/Deaf and it was genetic, so my kiddos have the chance. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was six (everyone thought I was stubborn and ignoring them growing up?????? And my insurance didn’t believe my mom lol????) but I can’t hear over 50% of normal sounds in both ears, so whenever we have em, they will be learning it. I’ve seen families without hearing problems teach their kids and it eliminates so much excess noise, for them at least 😂 it doesn’t make much of a difference for me

I taught my little sister some basic signs when she was a baby, just because I was 14 and it was already the code I shared with her other sister (a friend of mine, not related to me by blood) and she picked it up easily. I hadn't meant it to be a legitimate form of communication but it definitely was. I'll be teaching my kid(s) too.

Yes, my husband is a KODA, his father was deaf, he lost his hearing from the measles when he was s baby and his adopted brother lost his from rubella inutero, so sign language is part of our lives. Our kids have grown up with it.

My son knows a few thing.  Like more, done, drink and dad. But he doesn’t really use dad because he can say that.  But he uses more. D done a lot. I have not show him anything else.

Yes but I’ve found now sometimes he prefers the signs over actually speaking. Which I find frustrating as I don’t know if he just can’t talk or it’s easier to sign ??
It’s interesting too he’s even started to make up some of his own sign language. I’m thinking he just prefers it but I’d like him to talk to for going to school/other people watching him purposes. He’s 2.

My daughters speech therapist tried to teach her sign language. So far my daughter only knows “all done” in sign language lol

We taught our son a few signs only because he is very active and he was still very little but it worked! He talks now but sometimes instinctively he will do the signs when he says the word 😊 I’d like to teach him to be fluent in ASL, we’re already a bilingual family so I think it would be good for him to learn that too & be able to communicate freely with even more people!
