Should I get him a gift

So I’m in a thing with this guy, but it’s not clear on where we stand. However, I think we’re ready to take it to the next step and maybe make it official. He lives a half hour away so it’s hard to see him every weekend. But Valentine’s Day is coming up. Idk if I should get him a gift or not? Like we’re not dating yet but we’ve been on a few dates. I don’t expect him to get me anything bc we haven’t talked about where we wanna go yet, which I wanna do next time which will be when we hangout. But idk if we’re hanging out before or after valentines day weekend so it’s an awkward timing. I don’t wanna rush it just Bc it’s valentines Day. I was thinking just maybe baking him some brownies as a nice gesture and playing it safe. Any ideas??
