Nicu time ?

At 32 weeks and 4 days would a baby have to stay in nicu? If so for how long ? I’m just trying to prepare myself because I’m in pre term labor right now

My son was born 32w 2d and was at the NICU for 39 days. He almost came home at a month old but he was having some issues holding his temperature, so they kept him a little longer. He’s been doing amazing and is a healthy, happy Little One.

Mine was born at 35 weeks and stayed in the nicu 2 weeks. He came home exactly 3 weeks before his due date 😊

A baby born under 35 weeks is a mandatory NICU stay, the length of which is dependent on the child and their needs. My son was born at 34 weeks exactly and though he was breathing independently had to stay for a month because he had no sucking reflex (necessary to eat and gain weight) & when he did suck he would become so tired his heart rate would drop. 
If you’re in preterm labor the NICU doctor should have came in to speak to you about what to expect, especially about the fact that you will have extra people on your delivery and they will almost immediately whisk the baby away to NICU.

Also went into preterm labor at 30 weeks with my first and they were able to stop it and I was on bed rest for 6 weeks till my son came at 5 pounds

Our son born at 28 weeks spent 76 days. He went back again for a UTI and died at 4 months from leukemia but most NICU babies are healthy when they go home and grow to be perfect. I was a NICU baby at 32 weeks.

The general rule of thumb is until they hit their due date. Some babies do great and go home earlier, but at least at my hospital we like to keep them until their due dates.

Babies don’t start eating orally until 34-35 weeks corrected. So AT LEAST until then, probably more like 36-37 weeks corrected provided there are no other complications.

That depend on your baby actually. Some babies only spend a couple nights in the nicu, others a long time. If baby can breathe on its own & eat well, they’ll probably only keep them a couple of days for observation. My sister had her daughter at 34 weeks but she was in NICU for 2m. My sisters BFF had her baby at 33.5 weeks & he went home after a few days.
