Do/did your parents hit/slap you?

My parents do, and honestly, I wish they didn’t. Rather than the hitting/slapping disciplining me and teaching me to respect them, it teaches me to fear them. Whenever an “incident” occurs I just feel so broken and destroyed, and my relationship with my parents just seems to crumble more from it. I remember one time it got really bad (really bad for me and my past experiences like this) and my mother started punching me in the stomach and pulling out my hair. I just don’t get how you could ever lay a hand on someone you love so much? They must not love me, I feel. Because there’s no way, at least in my opinion, that that is real love. Real love shouldn’t resort to physical altercations. Love is patient, and love is kind. But idk, I’m not a mother yet. Anyone have any opinions? Agree or disagree?

I was spanked with an open hand on my butt. I was never afraid of my mother. She never left a mark on me. She always explained why I was being disciplined. The discipline was always proportional to what I had done.
What you are describing is physical abuse. It is not discipline it is assault and battery. No wonder you are afraid. No wonder you don’t feel loved.

Woah woah woah! I was smacked every now and then on my backside as a kid when I REALLY overstepped the mark. 
I’m talking when telling off or time out didn’t work. One smack on the bum and further time out. I do not, and have never feared my parents, in fact I am my mother’s carer now that she is old and if I’m half the parent either of them are (IF I EVER manage to conceive!), I’ll be happy! 
What you’re describing is physical abuse and it is absolutely wrong! Speak out. Confide in someone you trust. Do not accept it. You do not deserve it and it is not normal! GL

If your parents are punching you or hitting you with a closed fist, you should tell someone. 
I was spanked as a child out of love. My parents would spank me on the butt, tell me why I was being disciplined, give me a hug and tell me how I could do better with my words or actions. I was disciplined bc that’s what God commands. It was never out of anger, always out of love. There is a huge difference.

I do agree with you and I hope everyone who hits or what they often call “spank” “pop” their kids read this with that being said this is definitely child abuse like another said and needs to be reported and I’m terribly sorry your going through that their is never anything you could do to have your mother beat you like that or even lay a hand on you and I say this as a mother there is no way I could imagine psychically hitting my child ever

Seek help right away! I was a child of abuse ( from my mother) and I thought it was normal because she said other kids had it much worse. She would threaten to kill herself if I ever left. You need to get out of there. It is not normal. It is not ok. I don't know what kind of resources you have available to you, but you need to confide in a trusted adult. Teacher, counselor, or anyone you trust.
