Can they go to jail?

So my bf family came over to talk to my bf about always going out to parties and not coming home to sleep they said they were going to teach him a lesson and started choking him and making him go on his knees so they can hit him with a cable it was his father and 2 brothers, they didn’t hit him bc I told them to stop but they said they will put him in jail for not coming home to sleep
